Inspired by a true story

A message from writer/director Carolyn Saunders:

Sophie is a teenager in an idyllic English town struggling to come of age, braving her first love and her sexual awakening. She has a secret boyfriend, a badass best girlfriend, and controlling parents who won't let her grow up, so she fights back with the only weapon she has - she stops eating....Until a nightmarish ghost appears that may be real, or may be a deadly creation of her starving body.

I have written many hours of television documentary about the paranormal, so I've heard a lot of great stories. But then I met a young woman who told me the most riveting tale yet - her own story of being anorexic and under attack night after night by a ghostly hag that may or may not have been of her own making.

We'll never know if her nightmare was real or a product of her malnourishment and sleep deprivation. But it was real for her. And so was the hell she went through when her friends and family didn't believe her, and she realised her eating disorder had stolen her credibility and her voice.

Sophie is a different girl in a different place, but the hell is the same. A hell where hallucination and truth collide, where the line between perception and reality blurs, to disastrous effect. A hell where the people you love the most can't understand you, and think you are losing your mind.

Nothing in life is ever as straight-forward as it seems. Sometimes, under all the layers of reason there lurks an unspeakable secret.

Let's start peeling those layers away...
